A return flight from Zanzibar to one of the Serengeti airstrips takes under two hours. You can be on a game drive the same afternoon you leave the beach.
The flight itself is part of the experience. Small charter aircraft cross the Tanzanian mainland at low altitude. You see the landscape change from the green coastal strip to the dry acacia savannah and then to the open plains of the Serengeti. Two nights is the right duration for this format. One night is not enough to adjust to the rhythm of the Serengeti. Three nights or more works better as a road safari from Arusha. Day By Day Itinerary
DAY 1 : Zanzibar to the Serengeti
Morning flight from Zanzibar to the Serengeti airstrip, arriving late morning. Your guide meets you at the airstrip. After a brief orientation and lunch at the tented camp, you head out for an afternoon game drive.
The afternoon game drive runs from around 3pm until dusk. This is one of the best windows in the entire day: the heat drops, the light turns gold, and the predators begin to move. Your guide explains what you are seeing as it happens.

DAY 2 : Full Day in the Serengeti
The full day in the Serengeti follows the same two-drive structure: early morning before sunrise while predators are still active, and late afternoon when movement increases again. Midday is spent at camp with a packed lunch.
Where you drive depends on the season and where the wildlife is concentrated. Your guide has current information before you set out and adjusts accordingly. Likely sightings include lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, and a wide range of bird species.

DAY 3 : Morning Game Drive and Return to Zanzibar
Early morning drive before breakfast, one of the most productive game drive windows of the trip. Full breakfast at camp, then pack and transfer to the airstrip. The flight returns you to Zanzibar by early afternoon, leaving the rest of the day on the island.

Best Time To Visit
This safari runs year-round because the Serengeti has excellent wildlife at all times. The dry season from June to October gives the clearest sightings as vegetation is low and animals gather at water sources. July to September is peak Great Migration crossing season in the northern Serengeti. January to March offers the calving season in the south with exceptional predator activity and fewer visitors. Your guide will tell you what to expect for your specific dates.

How long is the flight from Zanzibar to the Serengeti?
The flight takes between 60 and 90 minutes depending on which Serengeti airstrip is used and whether the aircraft makes any intermediate stops. The most common route uses Seronera airstrip in the central Serengeti. All flights are on small charter aircraft with 5 to 12 seats. They fly at low altitude and the views of the landscape below are genuinely part of the experience.
Do I need a separate visa for the Serengeti if I arrived via Zanzibar?
Zanzibar and the Serengeti are both part of Tanzania, so if you entered the country legally through Zanzibar you do not need a second visa to travel to the mainland. However, some nationalities hold visas specifically for Zanzibar only, which do not cover mainland Tanzania. Check your visa type before booking. We can advise if you are not sure.
Is 2 nights in the Serengeti enough?
Two nights is the right amount of time for a fly-in format. You get one full game drive day and two half days, which gives your guide enough time to take you to different areas of the park and explain what you are seeing. It is not the same depth as a 5 day road safari from Arusha, but it is a genuine experience of the Serengeti rather than a rushed day trip. If you want more time in the Serengeti we recommend adding a night, or planning a longer road-based safari for a future trip.
Will I see the Great Migration?
Between July and September the wildebeest herds cross the Mara River in the northern Serengeti, which is the event most people associate with the Great Migration. If you are visiting in that window your guide will position the itinerary toward the north. Outside that window the migration is still present somewhere in the Serengeti but not at the crossing stage. The wildlife in the Serengeti is exceptional year-round and the migration is one highlight among many.
How do I pay and what is the cancellation policy?
A 30 percent deposit confirms your booking. The balance is due 60 days before departure. We accept bank transfer and major card payments. Cancellations more than 60 days before departure receive a full refund of the deposit minus transfer fees. Cancellations within 60 days are subject to accommodation cancellation policies.
